San Jose, Ca: The San Jose community is rallying together in an urgent search for Arnav Singh, a 20-year-old Palo Alto resident and incoming San José State University student who was reported missing on May 5. Family, friends, volunteers, and local residents are continuing extensive efforts across the Bay Area as concern for his safety grows.
According to search organizers and authorities, Singh was last seen after his parents dropped him off at the San José State University library on May 5. His final known phone signal was later traced near Kelley Park in San Jose at approximately 3 p.m. Since then, he has not answered calls or contacted family members, prompting a large-scale community response.
Singh is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing approximately 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. At the time he disappeared, he was wearing a brown short-sleeved shirt, black track pants or sweatpants, and carrying a black backpack with the words “Step Function” printed on it. The backpack reportedly contained a maroon hoodie and a laptop.
Search teams made up of volunteers and community members began mobilizing early May 6 morning. According to organizers, multiple locations throughout San Jose have already been searched. Volunteers have also used drones to survey areas along Coyote Creek, though search leaders say additional manpower is still needed to cover wider sections of the area.
“This came out of nowhere,” said Priya Junnarkar, one of the community members helping coordinate search efforts. “Every hour is critical.”
San José State University Police confirmed they are investigating the disappearance and continue coordinating search operations. Family members and supporters are urging the public to remain alert and report any possible sightings or information.
Anyone with information regarding Arnav Singh’s whereabouts is asked to contact the San José State University Police Department at 408-924-2222, local law enforcement, or community search coordinators at 650-804-0174 or 650-380-2038.
