Bhubaneswar, Sep 17 (IANS) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched the month-long 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' on Thursday with a mega blood donation camp in Bhubaneswar on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 76th birthday.
The campaign is being organised to commemorate the Prime Minister's 25-year journey in public life marked by service, dedication, and nation-building.
Extending greetings to Prime Minister Modi on behalf of 4.5 crore Odisha people, CM Majhi said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the architect of a developed India, has brought about a transformation in the country through his 50 long years in public service and 25 years of uninterrupted governance. Inspired by his welfare-oriented ideals, the month-long 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' is not merely a programme, but a massive people's movement of human service and sacrifice."
The Chief Minister attended the mega blood donation camp organised at the IDCO Exhibition Ground in Unit-3 as part of the 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan'.
He said that the state government is committed to ensuring that no life is lost prematurely in the state due to a shortage of blood.
He added that the camp organised on Thursday has set a target of collecting more than 6,500 units of blood.
The Chief Minister also said that to ensure blood security in the state, the "Atal Blood Donation Abhiyan" has been launched with an allocation of Rs 50.54 crore in the 2026-27 Budget.
Under the initiative, blood banks are being established in new medical colleges and existing blood banks are being modernised.
"Saving a life by donating blood gives us a sense of having upheld our high human values. No matter how far science advances, there is no substitute for blood, and it cannot be manufactured in any factory," CM Majhi remarked.
Highlighting the development in the country under the leadership of PM Modi, the Chief Minister said that India has emerged as an influential geopolitical and economic power in the world.
He noted that India is becoming self-reliant in the fields of semiconductors and space technology, while defence imports have declined from 70 per cent to 35 per cent.
Chief Minister Majhi expressed confidence that the goal of a 'Viksit India' will be achieved before 2047.
Addressing the youth on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, "The greatest tribute to PM Narendra Modiji will be for the youth to dedicate some time from their daily lives to engage in social work and commit themselves to the service of the nation."
