Sacramento, California: A 28-year-old Punjab-origin man, Gurinder Singh Gill, has been arrested and charged with the murder of his wife, Jasmine Aujla Gill, 30, after her burned remains were discovered in El Dorado County, California, authorities said.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Jasmine was last seen at her Sacramento residence on September 30, 2026. Her cousin reported her missing on October 4, four days after burned human remains were discovered in El Dorado County on October 1. Investigators subsequently identified the remains as those of Jasmine Gill and began treating the case as a homicide.

On October 9, authorities appealed to the public for assistance in locating Jasmine as detectives continued investigating her disappearance.

During the initial inquiry, Gurinder allegedly told investigators that agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had taken his wife into custody while she was checking the mail at their residence. However, detectives contacted ICE, which confirmed that no enforcement activity had taken place at the address.

As the investigation progressed, detectives identified several inconsistencies in Gurinder’s statements about his wife’s disappearance, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators also learned that the couple had been involved in an ongoing divorce and child custody dispute.

Authorities examined the circumstances surrounding Jasmine’s disappearance and death before homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Gurinder with murder.

On October 14, detectives located and arrested Gurinder. Investigators also executed search warrants at two residences associated with him as part of the ongoing investigation.

Gurinder was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. According to reports citing court records, he was arraigned on Friday, October 16, on a murder charge and is being held without bail.

The case has drawn attention within the Indian-American community, particularly among people of Punjabi origin, as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding Jasmine’s death.

The sheriff’s office has not publicly detailed all the evidence collected in the case. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue examining the available evidence and the events leading to Jasmine’s death.

Gurinder’s arrest and the murder charge represent allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
