 SPECIAL ISSUE

May 4, 2002: Our labor of love: With pride & humility

Dear Readers:
It is here, the 25th Anniversary edition of the India Tribune.
It is with pride and humility that we present this labor of love to you.
We have a sense of pride because we have nurtured this newspaper for twenty-five years and seen it grow from a single edition in to three editions published from three cities — Chicago, New York and Atlanta simultaneously.
More importantly, we are humbled by the love and response that we have received from you, our readers, who have supported us over the years and helped us reach this stage of maturity where we can be proud of our heritage, our achievements, and our values in this adopted land of ours.
It would be hard for me not to get nostalgic at this stage. I still remember the May of 1977 vividly when I started this newspaper from my apartment. It was against all odds, and it was against all the advice that I had received from my friends and well wishers, including my father who literally thought that I had lost my beans. I started with very little capital, but the drive to succeed against all odds kept me going. The greater the resistance I had, the more determined I got. It is said that the harder one tries, the luckier one gets, and I think I would be a living example of this saying.
It has been my privilege to serve this community. I am proud that I have performed this service with a sense of pride, fairness, courage, and determination. Many a times I have been faced with situations where I have been asked, directly or indirectly, to compromise on my values, or have been asked to compromise the interests of the community. I am proud to report that I have stood tall in all such cases and did what I thought was right for our community, personal preferences aside. The result is gratifying. We have completed 25 years of publishing excellence with style, with respect, with courage, with honor, and with the love we have received from the community, and all those who we have come in contact with.
You are seeing a new look of the India Tribune today. It is a look that represents the changing times and looks into the things to come. We intend to forge ahead with new ideas, new alliances, and new technology to keep you in touch with India, and the World. Our alliance with The Times of India Group is in the works, and soon you shall be seeing some very visible changes that reflect our commitment to excellence, and our commitment to you.
Once again, we proudly present the 25th Anniversary edition of the India Tribune. We thank you for the support that has helped us reach this stage, and we promise you publishing excellence in years to come.

Sincerely,

Prashant Shah
Editor & Publisher
