 SPECIAL ISSUE

May 1, 1993: Tribune debut in New York

Dear Readers,
By now, the New York edition of India Tribune is already in the hands of readers in New York and Tri-State area — a befitting present as we step into our 17th year of publication.
The new, bold venture proves our determination to serve our community nationally with our proven standards of journalistic excellence. Our steadfast readership in the Midwest is the bedrock of goodwill and motivating force.
The New York edition is offered with love, with dedication, with pride, with humility and with hope.
Our love for our community is no secret. We have grown in it, we have matured in it, we live in it, we nurture it, we reflect it.
The issue has been pared with dedication by our staff that worked diligently thru the nights and put together an issue that is clean, crisp and concise.
The bold graphics and the new look are an indication of our dedication to this newspaper, and to our community. We take pride in what we do, be it our unbiased news reporting, opinions or views.
Our issue-oriented stance has served us well for the past 16 years and we hope it will take us thru eternity. We raise issues and we report the news. Many a time we have been tempted to get personal, but by seeing the effect of yellow journalism in others, we feel good about ourselves for not giving in to temptation. We are proud of ourselves.
India Tribune made a humble beginning in Chicago in 1977. Thanks to the sustained support of the community for the last 16 years, we are emboldened to launch the New York edition.
Regardless of how proud we feel about ourselves, we will always be indebted to you —our readers for all our success. Without you, we would have no reason to exist. You are our “raison d’etre.”
It is with your support that we have the courage to take unusual stands and go against the norms. It is with your goodwill that we have ventured into New York. We can count upon your good wishes for the new venture.
And finally, we have brought out the New York edition with a lot of hope. A hope that we will be able to inform you, enlighten you, and most of all, make you think. Make you think about yourself as individuals, as a community and as an Indian living in America… with hope for a better future for us and our generations to come. Let us work together for this goal in complete harmony!

Sincerely,

Prashant Shah
