Ottawa, Canada:  Vanshika, an Indian student who had been missing for four days, was found dead in Ottawa, the Indian High Commission confirmed on April 29. The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, and an investigation is currently underway by local Canadian authorities.

Originally from Dera Bassi in Punjab, Vanshika had moved to Canada two and a half years ago to pursue a diploma course after completing her schooling in India. Her disappearance had sparked concern both within the Indian community in Canada and back home, as she had not been heard from for several days before her body was discovered.

Vanshika was the daughter of Devinder Singh, a prominent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and a close associate of MLA Kuljit Singh Randhwana. Her untimely death has prompted responses from Indian officials and political figures, as well as widespread sorrow among those who knew her.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Indian High Commission in Ottawa expressed deep sadness over the news and confirmed that they are closely following the case with the relevant local authorities. “We are deeply saddened to be informed of the death of  Vanshika, a student from India in Ottawa. The matter has been taken up with concerned authorities and the cause is under investigation as per local police,” the statement read.

Further details surrounding the cause of Vanshika’s death have not yet been disclosed, and the investigation continues. The Indian community awaits more information as officials work to clarify the circumstances that led to this tragic outcome.
