London: Britain will stop granting aid to India from 2015 in response to its former colony’s “rapid growth and development progress over the past decade,” the government announced on November 9.
Financial aid to India would be cut by about 200 million pounds ($319 million) a year between 2012 and 2015, before expiring completely, International Development Secretary Justine Greening said.
No new commitments would be made from now on, she told Parliament, adding that programs already running would be completed.
British support for India will in future be limited to skills-sharing in areas like trade, investment and health.
