Chicago:  It’s not an easy task for a foreign medical graduate (FMG) — however brilliant  he or she is — to get into a residency program of any hospital in the US. It is a highly competitive world.
Sheer getting good grades at graduation level or merely getting high scores in USMLE is not just sufficient, though they are helpful.  What is found lacking in foreign medical graduates is not knowledge, but the capability to express themselves. It is here they need good training and grooming.
Residents Medical Group, a Los Angeles-based international institution, has specialized in training and preparing foreign medical graduates to be successful in getting into residential programs in reputed hospitals. Dr. Arnold Michael Everest, president of Residents Medical Group, was recently in the India Tribune office, to share information about his organization with the editor.
Dr. Arnold Michael says that though most foreign medical graduates, particularly those, who come from India, are highly knowledgeable, they are often shy. They are even modest and hesitate to talk about themselves.  Some of them lack expression though they have mastered their subjects. In reality, they are not “pushy” even to tell about themselves. That’s why they do not adequately impress the interviewing officials.
“Health care system in the US is a highly competitive field.  As a medical graduate, if you do not express yourself properly you will not land in any residency program.  It’s here Residents Medical Group that helps such foreign medical graduates. Residents Medical Group helps medical doctors with the complexity of securing a residency position in this highly competitive field.  We also work with health care centers brining the best candidates to their attention. This synergy is our goal - brining great doctors to great institutions,” he emphasizes.
He says that the competition is so intense that on an average only one residency position is available for every 180 qualified foreign medical graduates applying. But that should not discourage them. The success rate among the Residents Medical Group-trained and vetted foreign medical graduates is 99.9 percent. “We have trained and polished medical graduates from India, Russia, Israel, and East and West European countries. We have offices in Prague in Czech Republic, Munich, Germany, Karachi, Pakistan, and we are in the process of opening an office in Chicago too,” he adds.
Dr. Arnold Michael Everest says founded some 20 years ago by his father, Dr. Edwin Everest, a foreign medical graduate of Indian origin, with a dozen graduate degrees of specialization in medicine and other fields, Residents Medical Group works on the principle of  bringing medical school graduates looking for residency placement and distinct Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited medical residency programs together to further enhance both the resident and the residency program.
Explaining the aim of Residents Medical Group, Dr. Arnold Michael Everest says: “It is our goal to provide the best possible service to both the medical doctor and the residency program.  We recruit the best and the brightest physicians from around the world, and place them in some of the finest programs across the US. Our referral program is unsurpassed and is our largest base of new clientele, every satisfied resident on the average refers     five new residents to place further benefiting the newly placed resident and his referrals. Every physician placed has the backing of our team of experts.”
Asked how Residents Medical Group maintains this high standard, he says, “Our faculty is headed by me with my personal attention to each and every student of the graduate medical education program, and consists of highly qualified chairman, directors, DIO’S, professors, associate professors of medicine from top universities, and we have nationwide advisory committee members and board of directors.  We provide observer-ship and externship to our foreign medical graduates. Our Residency training program does not believe in short-cuts, but we give our Residency program trainees the right kind of exposure, so that they succeed at placement interviews.”
Dr. Arnold Michael, who is an accomplished physician and businessman, says that his father Dr. Edwin Everest was a foreign graduate, who dedicated his life to educating himself and others.  He constantly improved medical institutions as a whole both in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.  He founded the US Health Systems where he trained and guided the principals of Residents Medical Group. He was the CEO and CFO of leading health care  facilities in the US throughout his life.  He was the single force in shaping and changing how residents — both foreign and domestic — are placed in medical residency programs.
Dr. Arnold Michael Everest follows the footsteps of his father, after his passing away, in developing the Residents Medical Group by following his legacy. Building on the forward thinking of his father, Dr. Arnold Michael Everest understands the professional needs of the residents and guides them with his vast experience.
He says that each year hundreds of thousands of students graduate from medical schools worldwide.  These graduates are entering an already overflowing pool where thousands of candidates struggle year after year for a prized position in an ACGME accredited Residency Program. Due to overwhelming number of students competing for the few residency positions, many are lost in the process.  By leaving the politics of residencyplacement to the professionals at Residents Medical Group, these residents can focus on medical schools around the world into residency programs. “From large United States medical institutions to smaller research centers, we partner with medical centers across the country, making sure that every student of ours is rightly placed,” he adds.
Dr. Arnold Michael concluded by saying: “Residents Medical Group is the innovator of the residency placement business. While other companies simply help a future resident with Curriculum Vitae (CV) and personal statements, and are limited to the ‘match only,’ Residents Medical Group utilizes a large gamut of resources and facilitates positions in mid-term, early match and  outside of Electronic Residency Application service (ERAS). We provide creative solutions that are innovative in the residency placement field.”
