Toronto: New York Emmy-nominated filmmaker Tirlok Malik’s new film Khushiyaan is nominated for 14 Punjabi International Film Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The awards ceremony will take place here on August 4.
Dharmendra is the brand ambassador for the PIFA Awards and there will be many major celebrities of Punjabi Cinema making an appearance. It will be the first of the annual PIFA Awards and it was founded by Rajinder Saini of Parvasi Media, Toronto.
Tirlok Malik and his team are proud that Khushiyaan was nominated with other recent great Punjabi films — Dharti, Jihne Mera Dil Luteya, Yaar Annmulle, and Yaara O Dildaara.
Khushiyaan is produced by Darshan Garg, D.P. Goyal, and Pardeep Bansal. The film portrays the complex emotions of leaving parents in India and getting caught up in a busy American life.
Ken Naz, president of the Americas for Eros International, said: “Eros and I are very proud of Tirlok Malik’s film Khushiyaan.” Eros released the film worldwide.
Tirlok Malik has spent his career making films about Indian-American immigrant themes.
Malik is nominated for directing Khushiyaan, featuring Punjabi stars Jasbir Jassi making his debut as a lead actor, Kulbushan Kharbanda, Rama Vij, Tisca Chopra (Tare Zamin Par), Deep Dhillon, Shrey Bawa, Vivek Shauq, and Gurpreet Guggi. Story and screenplay are by Rajan Gangahar and Tirlok Malik. The music for Khushiyaan is composed by Jaidev Kumar and includes lyrics by Kumar. There is also a Shabd sung by the late Shri Jagjit Singh.
