At Rs. 82,000 a run, Ganguly a costly mistake for Sahara?

New Delhi: With Rajasthan Royals’ thumping 7-wicket victory over Pune Warriors, the Sourav Ganguly-led team became the first one to crash out of the IPL 5 tournament at the play-off stage.

The early exit of the team — the tournament’s final match is still a fortnight away — comes as a major disappointment for its owner, Sahara India, which had counted on the southpaw to prove to be a useful replacement for its previous captain Yuvraj Singh.

While Sourav failed to fire as a player, his strategy as a captain too left a lot to be desired. He scored a total of 261 runs at a dismal average of 20 a match, and failed to hit even a single 50. Under his captaincy, Pune Warriors lost 9 out of the total 13 matches it played.
