Chicago: Akshaya Patra Foundation has been named one of the Top 100 NGOs in the world by The Global Journal in the 2013 edition. Akshaya Patra was selected from a pool of approximately 450 NGOs this year based on three key criteria: impact, innovation and sustainability. Akshaya Patra is ranked 23 overall and number one in the world for children and youth, and number one in India.

Meanwhile, with community’s support, Akshaya Patra USA exceeded its fundraising goal of $3.2 million for 2012 by raising $5.6 million. This includes a generous grant from Caterpillar Foundation for $2 million for building a kitchen in UP.
“We are touched by the ever deepening commitment of the community to help bring about widespread impact and ensure that hunger is not a barrier to education for these 1.3 million children in India. We are forming a dynamic and engaged community of individuals, who value Akshaya Patra’s dual mission of eradicating hunger and promoting education simultaneously,” said Akshaya Patra chairman Desh Deshpande.
“Our confidence in our ability as a community to create a truly transformative change grows more steadfast each year. We thank you for making Akshaya Patra your philanthropic priority and we are counting on your continued support and encouragement in 2013. Together we will reach our goal to raise $4.3 million for the deserving children in India this year,” said its president Madhu Sridhar.
