76-year-old marathon runner
Washington, DC: India’s 76-year-old marathon runner Ashis Roy has completed his 83rd long distance run, finishing third in the 75 plus age group in the Grandmas marathon at Duluth, Minnesota.
Roy, who has already run two marathons in US this year — the Atlanta marathon on March 30 and Delaware marathon on May 18 — finished the 26.2 mile route in six hours and 20 minutes on June 21.
Roy, a long distance runner from Delhi, who ran with kneecaps on both legs of the race due to an acute knee pain, completed the first half in two hours and 59 minutes. However, due to the persistent pain, the timing in the second half was 22 minutes more than the first one. He finished the second half of the race in three hours and 21 minutes.
Roy, who plans to complete 100 marathons before he attains the age of 80 years.
